Beijing Women Leadership Roundtable

On April 19th, Women Empowerment Council (WEC) members ExxonMobil and FedEx co-hosted a roundtable discussion centered on how empowering women strengthens economies.

To start the event, Tze San Koh, President of Gas China Marketing at ExxonMobil, welcomed everyone to the Waldorf. Tze San emphasized WEC’s mission to advance gender equality in businesses in China and beyond. To achieve that, WEC hosts regular events and activities around its three pillars: Sharing, Learning, and Influencing. She also shared her experience as a woman executive in the energy industry and how ExxonMobil empowers women to succeed in China and the United States.

To dive deeper into the theme of women empowerment, Thought Leader Sandy Lv, Leader of Operations Transformation Offering at Deloitte, shared more insights. Deloitte serves clients both in traditional business and the new economy. As a thought leader in the consulting business, they also believe that empowering women helps to shape Deloitte’s inclusion landscape.

From Dell, Shirley Wu, Senior Vice President, Greater China Market, elaborated on how Dell set diversity and inclusion KPIs. They have adopted a policy to ensure that for every job post listed, there is a strong female candidate. Also, the executive leaders at Dell respect diversity and strive to appreciate every employee.

After sharing from Yue Wu, President, BP Gas China, Echo Li, Senior HR manager at HPE, and Christina Wang, Head of Infectious Disease Business Unit, Janssen China, the other roundtable guests shared more about their personal journeys as women in business. Participants discusased findings on women’s traits ranging from empathy, resilience, agility, and perseverance. After each member shared their own actions to empower women, guests shared similar feedback in that women are more confident if they can learn from their success, and they can be a better self if they know their strengths. To continue growing, we need to find our passion and be resilient when overcoming obstacles.

All of the speakers and roundtable participants provided thoughtful insights on women empowerment, and we appreciate both ExxonMobil and FedEx for their contributions to gender equality in China and beyond.
