April 10, 2024

On April 10, 2024, the Girls in STEMM (GIS) program entered the international and prestigious iKang Bayley & Jackson Medical Center. More than 30 students from Canadian International School, Keystone Academy Beijing, Dulwich College Beijing, and International School of Beijing gained a deeper understanding of the doctor profession and a clearer view for their possible career path through practical experience of the role of a doctor and conversations with industry experts.
At the outset of the event, experts from iKang Bayley & Jackson Medical Center delivered a comprehensive opening introduction to the students. Dr. Jaclyn Dam Laute, a dental specialist and graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Doctor of Dental Surgey introduced the significance of the event and the experts from the iKang Bayley & Jackson Medical Center who were participating in the visit.
Following this, Ms. Jie Qu, General Manager of High-End Medical Services for the Beijing branch of iKang Healthcare Group, provided the attending students with a detailed introduction to iKang Bayley & Jackson Medical Center and the medical services it offers.
The two highlights of this event are practicality and experiential learning. Through hands-on experience with the state-of-the-art medical equipment and health assessments at the iKang Center, the students gained unique and educational medical experiences.
The students visited the dental department of iKang Center. The dental team gave the introduction to AI diagnosis and 3D imaging, include computerized tomography (CBCT) and intraoral scanning. Under the guidance of Dr. Jaclyn Dam Laute, the students carried out practical operations and experienced the first perspective of oral examination. During the experience of the Evaluation of chronic retinal disease by artificial intelligence (AIRDOC), the students deeply felt the influence of AI technology on medical development. After the experience, they only needed 2-3 minutes to obtain their health reports and recommendations, leaving the students in awe of the power of technology. Throughout growth, body posture has always been a significant concern for teenagers. At the iKang Health Management Center, the students participated in 3D health measurements and posture assessments, gaining a better understanding of their body data and posture.
Following the experiential journey, three female experts from the iKang Center, including Dr. Jaclyn Dam Laute, Deputy General Manager of Medical Service, iKang Dental Beijing Operation, Dr. Hao Juan, Director of Precision Medicine, and Dr. Zhang Yan, Director of Pediatrics, engaged in an exciting Q&A session with the students.
The experts shared meticulously prepared content, including their career development paths as women, the challenges and sense of mission of becoming a doctor, and how AI technology can better aid medical advancement. Their insights helped the students gain a deeper understanding of doctors and encouraged more students to bravely pursue their talents in the medical field. The students were also inspired by the career development and professional enthusiasm of the female experts, showing a strong interest in the medical profession.
Through this immersive experience in the medical field, the students of GIS deepened their understanding of the profession and developed a sense of reverence for doctors. Through this carefully curated visit by Synpact and iKang Bayley & Jackson Medical Center, STEMM students can have a clearer view of their future career path and boldly pursue their passions!
