It’s time to celebrate! On May 15 and May 22, Synpact held graduation ceremonies for our 2023/24 cohort in Beijing and Shanghai to acknowledge the achievements of our students that successfully completed this year’s program. 33 students from Canadian International School of Beijing, Dulwich College Beijing, International School of Beijing, and Keystone Academy participated in the Beijing ceremony. 19 students from Concordia International School, Dulwich College Shanghai, and Nord Anglia International School Shanghai (Pudong) participated in the Shanghai ceremony. Mandy Tao (General Manager, Synpact) and Ida Wang (MKT & Project Manager, Synpact) hosted the ceremonies, and Su-Cheng Harris Simpson (Founder & President, Synpact) warmly congratulated our graduates through video.  

Synpact’s Girls in STEMM program aims at empowering the next generation of women in STEMM by developing girls’ awareness, knowledge, and confidence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine (STEMM) fields early on. This year, participants in Beijing visited Audi, ConocoPhillips, HPE, iKang Bayley & Jackson Medical Center, and PwC. Participants in Shanghai visited ExxonMobil, FedEx, Henkel, Merck, and Microsoft. 

Looking back at this year’s visits, the Girls in STEMM program brought students to companies that span a wide spectrum of industries and market sections. During the program review, students shared their learnings on how natural resources can be turned into everyday products. They also highlighted the opportunities where they touched and played with cutting edge technologies. The girls also shared ‘Wow moments’ when they realized they were in power of their lives, and it was perfectly fine to change paths after talking to female role models with different education backgrounds and career paths but chose to stay in STEMM related industries. Inspired by the cultures of the companies they visited, girls also had a better idea of a diverse and inclusive workplace and how it promoted collaboration and innovation. 

“I did not know many of the jobs these people (role models from companies) were doing. However, after I participated in this program I was able to get expose to different jobs, and get in touch with people coming from different backgrounds.”

“One thing that really amazed me during the orientation was how low the percentage of women in STEM was. And now I realized that women in STEM can achieve lots of things. Girls in STEM will inspire younger audiences and achieve more diversity for those who want to join.”

Girls also had the opportunity to sit down with a panel of speakers during round-robin sessions. 

These female role models brought their STEMM knowledge to startups, corporates, education, lifestyle, etc. When sat down with the students, listening to their thoughts and questions, they shared their insights on industry opportunities, making choices, controlling mood, setting goals, embracing uncertainties, etc. These sessions provided the girls with valuable perspectives on navigating a career in STEMM, further inspiring them to pursue their own paths in these fields. 

Students won prizes for participating in games and asking questions. 

Congratulations once again, graduates! We wish you all the very best in your future endeavors. The future of STEMM is in your hands, and we have no doubt you’ll leave your mark on the world.
