Girls in STEMM visited Microsoft CSU in Shanghai on April 8 for an interactive and insightful afternoon.  

Jessica Shen, Business Program Manager, opened this event with an exciting news about Microsoft’s 50-year-anniversary and shared some of the company’s most impressive achievements with the students. 

Learning is always the best through play. Microsoft MTC brought two sets of HoloLenses to showcase how people can interact with Mixed Reality (MR). Microsoft Cloud Solution Architects brought a fun exercise to teach students about prompt engineering for AI products. Using Microsoft’s Copilot product, students experimented different styles of prompts that gives instruction to AI to generate pictures. Students learned about Large Language Models (LLM), and shared about how the current model is good at processing certain information better than other.

Architects guide students to optimize prompts to generate more accurate graphic results.

Microsoft colleagues heat pressed the graphics students made with Copilot to canvas bags so they can show them off to their friends and families! 

In the second half of the event, students get the chance to have in depth conversation with role models from Microsoft to ask questions and draw insights.  

Ginger Li shared her big pivot from an aspiring pre-med student to a computer science major and how she decided to join Microsoft.  

Students asked about what it is like working at Microsoft. Can Wu and Ruoqian Wu shared that at Microsoft you can work anywhere, not just in the office. Being present at all continents in the world, Microsoft enables its employees to find someone from the Microsoft community easily and they get to work with clients and teams based all across the world. Some students shared their anxieties about grades, performances, choosing majors. Jackson Chen shared his mixed background and gave advice to students to help them navigate the confusion. Jessica Shen highlighted how a supportive environment helped her go through the time she struggled to find balance between work and life. She encouraged students to build such supportive environment for themselves along the way of transitioning from high school to college and later to workplace.
